Subscriptions (recurring)

Get to know Subscriptions

Subscriptions automate the generation of recurring payments for the same customer.

After you create the subscription, Asaas generates new payments according to the configured frequency. Each payment has its own ID, status, and financial cycle.

📘

By the end of this page, you will understand how Subscriptions work and be able to move on to the appropriate implementation flow.

When to use

Use Subscriptions when your integration needs to:

  • generate payments at recurring intervals;
  • use bank slip (boleto), Pix, or credit card;
  • automate monthly fees, plans, or recurring services;
  • avoid manually creating a new payment each cycle.

How it works

The subscription works as a schedule for generating payments.

Payments are generated gradually according to the recurrence. Creating the subscription does not generate all future payments at once.

By default, each new payment is created 40 days before the due date. This period can be configured to 14 or 7 days before the due date.

See how to create a subscription.

Choose the payment method

Payment methodBehavior
Bank slip (boleto)Asaas generates the payment and the payer makes the payment
PixAsaas generates the payment and the payer makes the payment
Credit cardAsaas generates the payment and attempts the charge on the due date

For credit card, the card details can be sent when creating the subscription for validation and use in future payments.

See Subscription with credit card.

⚠️

Attention

Creating a subscription does not confirm payment.

Track the result of each generated payment according to the payment method used.

Track the generated payments

Each payment belongs to the subscription, but has its own lifecycle.

Therefore, your integration must track new payments and status changes via Webhooks, especially when performing:

  • financial reconciliation;
  • payment synchronization;
  • release of products or services;
  • invoice issuance.

See the payment events.
