Transfers FAQ

Find the most common questions about transfers between Asaas accounts, Pix, TED, scheduling and tracking the operation.

To implement a transfer, follow the guide for the corresponding destination.

Can I transfer an amount greater than the available balance?

No.

The transfer amount must be less than or equal to the available balance in the source Asaas account.

Check the available balance.

What is the difference between a transfer to an Asaas account and to another institution?

DestinationHow to identify it
Linked Asaas accountwalletId
External bank accountbankAccount
Pix keypixAddressKey and pixAddressKeyType

For Asaas accounts, use Transfer to Asaas account.

For external accounts or Pix keys, use Transfer to accounts at another institution.

Can I transfer to any Asaas account?

No.

Transfers between Asaas accounts are allowed only when there is a link between the accounts, such as:

  • main account and subaccount;
  • subaccount and main account;
  • subaccounts in the same hierarchy.

The destination account is identified by the walletId.

How do I retrieve the walletId?

If the identifier was not previously stored, use:

GET /v3/wallets/

See the Retrieve WalletId endpoint.

Do I need to specify whether the bank transfer will be Pix or TED?

Not necessarily.

When transferring to a bank account without providing operationType:

  • if the destination institution participates in Pix, the transfer will be made via Pix;
  • otherwise, it will be made via TED.

To define the method explicitly, use operationType with PIX or TED.

Can I transfer directly to a Pix key?

Yes.

Provide pixAddressKey and pixAddressKeyType.

The available key types are:

CPF, CNPJ, EMAIL, PHONE and EVP.

For phone keys, provide 11 digits, including the area code (DDD). CPF and CNPJ must be sent without punctuation.

Can I schedule a Pix transfer?

Yes.

Provide scheduleDate when creating the transfer.

If the field is not provided, the Pix transfer is processed without scheduling.

Can I create recurring Pix transfers?

Yes.

Use the recurring object when creating a Pix transfer to define the recurrence.

This flow creates periodic transfers and does not generate a QR Code for payment.

See the Recurring Pix guide.

Are Recurring Pix and Automatic Pix the same thing?

No.

In Recurring Pix, the payer sets up a periodic transfer.

In Automatic Pix, the receiver makes recurring charges after prior authorization by the payer.

See the difference between Recurring Pix and Automatic Pix.

How do I track the result of a transfer?

In Production, prefer Webhooks instead of repeatedly querying the API.

For the result of the operation, handle mainly:

EventMeaning
TRANSFER_DONETransfer completed
TRANSFER_FAILEDTransfer failed
TRANSFER_CANCELLEDTransfer canceled

Events such as TRANSFER_PENDING, TRANSFER_IN_BANK_PROCESSING and TRANSFER_BLOCKED let you track intermediate steps.

In the event, use transfer.id to relate the notification to the created transfer. When there is a failure, check transfer.failReason.

See Transfer events.

Can I receive the same transfer event more than once?

Yes.

Webhooks use at least once delivery, so an event may be resent.

Use the event's id field to ensure idempotency and avoid processing the same notification more than once.

When should I query a transfer with GET?

Use GET /v3/transfers/{id} for one-off queries, manual retrieval or when you need to display the current data of a transfer.

To keep your integration continuously in sync, use Webhooks.

See the Retrieve a single transfer endpoint.

Can I cancel a transfer?

Yes, as long as it has not yet been completed.

Use:

DELETE /v3/transfers/{id}/cancel

After cancellation:

  • the status changes to CANCELLED;
  • the amount returns to the source account's balance.

Transfers that have already been completed cannot be canceled through this endpoint.

See the Cancel a transfer endpoint.

Are transfers between Asaas accounts always instant?

In most cases.

The balance is usually available immediately in the destination Asaas account.

If critical event validation via APP Token or SMS Token is enabled, the transfer may remain pending until authorized.

How do I identify the transfer in my system?

Store the id returned by Asaas.

You can also send externalReference at creation to relate the transfer to the identifier used by your system.

Is transferring balance to another institution a payment initiation via Open Finance?

No.

In this flow, the transferred funds are already available in the Asaas account and are sent to another institution. There is no movement of an external account and no Open Finance consent.

Payment initiation flows require a specific integration involving a payment initiation service provider.
